When the lease for the Washington, DC office of Sidley Austin approached expiration in 2016 (approx. 289K SF and 420 attorneys), executive leadership identified an opportunity to revisit space utilization to better align with their forward-looking business strategy.
After a competitive bid process and negotiations led by JM Zell, Sidley decided to re-lease space in its original location at 1501 K Street and provide flexibility for future growth. As part of the engagement, JM Zell guided Sidley’s efforts in re-visiting its current space use strategy in light of changing industry and workplace practices. JM Zell developed a swing space strategy allowing the firm to renovate its entire space in place with no downtime and significant savings over other options. Previously, JM Zell represented Sidley in its original move to 1501 K Street, coinciding with Sidley Austin’s merger with Brown Wood. JM Zell continues to provide real estate advisory services to Sidley with regard to its Washington, DC space requirements.
